Asian Power.

In the June issue of British Vogue, there's an article about the increasing number of Asian models asserting their presence and beauty in the high-end fashion industry. Clearly there were too many models for them to keep track of, because a picture of Liu Wen walking for the Derek Lam show was incorrectly captioned as Du Juan (who wasn't even walking in that show).

Now, before I jump to conclusions and start hurling insults at the mag for succumbing to the "all Asians look alike" stereotype, I realise that this type of mistake is sadly not rare, and is not exclusive to Asian models. So let's focus on the good stuff and look at some of my favourite Asian models.

Liu Wen

If there's one thing that Liu Wen should be remembered for years from now, it's her ability to break boundaries. She was the first Asian face of Estee Lauder, and the first Asian model to walk in the Victoria's Secret Fashion show - not bad for a girl hailing from the Hunan province. With her to-die-for cheekbones, lithe figure and friendly demeanour, it's no wonder that she's a runway and editorial darling.

Gorgeous.

Du Juan

I have an absolute girl-crush on Du Juan. Can you blame me? Just look at her playful eyes, full lips, ballerina figure and bad-ass sounding name. She has been the face of Roberto Cavalli and Giorgio Armani, and closed runway shows for designers like Phillip Lim, Jenny Packham and Oscar de la Renta, just to name a few.
Work it, sister.

Fei Fei Sun

If you attached a pedometer on Fei Fei Sun every time she walked on the runway, the number would be staggering. She has walked for the likes of Alexander Wang, Marc Jacobs, Jason Wu and Lanvin. She's got a hip and edgy vibe - perfect for being the face of DSquared2 and appearing in magazines like V and i-D. Basically, I want to be her.
Just look at those cheekbones.

Daul Kim

I'm usually very miserable, so I reward myself with a fur coat every year.” - as said to RUSSH magazine.
I loved loved loved Daul Kim. She was beautiful of course, but she wasn't your stereotypical model. She loved reading Milan Kundera, she was a painter, she blogged. And there was always something deeper, darker lurking behind her eyes. It's been nearly two years since her death, but she won't be forgotten anytime soon. RIP.
